In this video, we will discuss how some of our favorite drinks may contain hidden calories that could sabotage our weight loss journey. Are you accidentally drinking away your calorie deficit? As someone who is also on a fat loss journey, I'm here to help you make better beverage choices. Let's start by talking about fruit juices. Fruits are nutritious, but some fruit juices can contain as much sugar and calories as soda. For instance, a 12-ounce glass of orange juice may have as much as 170 calories and 33 grams of sugar. This is a lot! Instead of fruit juices, try fresh fruit or low-sugar drinks like unsweetened tea or flavored sparkling water. Moving on to coffee, which is a favorite for many. However, some coffee drinks from popular chains can contain over 500 calories and 50 grams of sugar. That's a lot of hidden calories! But don't worry, you can try drinking black coffee, adding a small amount of milk, or using natural sweeteners like honey or stevia. Now, let's talk about energy drinks, which can be tempting when we need a quick pick-me-up. However, they can be loaded with sugar and caffeine. For instance, a 16-ounce can of Monster Energy may have as much as 54 grams of sugar and 160 milligrams of caffeine. That's more than a can of soda and a cup of coffee combined! Instead, try tea, which has less caffeine and is packed with antioxidants, or flavored sparkling water. Beer is another popular drink that can be high in calories. For example, a 12-ounce bottle of regular beer can have around 150 calories. Those calories can add up quickly. Instead, try light beer or other low-calorie alcoholic drinks. And remember, drink responsibly! Let's not forget about sports drinks, which we might think are healthy for rehydrating after a workout. However, they can be packed with sugar and salt. For instance, a 20-ounce bottle of Gatorade may have as much as 34 grams of sugar and 270 milligrams of sodium. That's a lot! Instead, try coconut water or low-sugar electrolyte drinks. Drinking your calories can quickly add up and sabotage your weight loss journey. So, it's essential to read nutrition labels, choose low-calorie drinks or zero-calorie drinks, and consult with a healthcare professional or registered dietitian if necessary. Also, keep in mind that liquid calories do count, so be mindful of what you drink.
